Mid-Campaign Update: University and Community Programs

Rutgers FoundationEnriching the scope and value of student experiences beyond the classroom is an important part of the Our Rutgers, Our Future challenge. With donations totaling more than $80 million, the campaign is 54 percent of the way toward its goal of $150 million in this category.

Support For University and Community Programs

Recognizing the value of experiences that take place beyond the classroom and laboratory, Our Rutgers, Our Future directs investment not only into academics but also into expanded arts programming, student activities, and student support services.

Alumni and friends can also help write the next chapter in one of the university’s greatest recent success stories, that of Rutgers athletics. In addition to serving some 1,000 student-athletes universitywide, the athletics program serves as an engine of school spirit, bringing national recognition to Rutgers and fueling a powerful loyalty on the part of Scarlet fans everywhere. By supporting individual sports programs, endowing coaches’ positions, or funding athletics scholarships, alumni and friends can help Rutgers athletics rise to even greater heights.

Rutgers FoundationAs a public university with a mission of service, Rutgers seeks to apply the knowledge it generates to address real-world problems. The university sponsors an array of programs with this goal:

  • Faculty at the School of Social Work’s Center on Violence Against Women and Children lead workshops around the state on topics such as working with survivors of sexual violence.
  • Through the Community Law Clinic at Newark, students provide legal counsel to small businesses, nonprofits, charter schools, and community development organizations to help transform blighted communities.
  • At the Ready to Run program at Rutgers’ Eagleton Institute of Politics, campaign consultants and elected officials offer campaign training to women of both parties, working to redress the gender imbalance in elected government.
  • Through the New Jersey Small Business Development Centers and affiliated offices on the Camden and Newark campuses, Rutgers faculty assist hundreds of new and growing enterprises across the region.
