Ready to Think Bigger? On Wednesday, March 25, 2020, Rutgers will host its annual Rutgers Giving Day. This 24-hour initiative takes place across all of Rutgers. Last year, more than 7,230 donors gave $1.36 million to hundreds of funds across the university.
Firm submission deadline: Friday, December 6, 2019. Please fill out and submit the online application below.
Questions? Email Givingday@ruf.rutgers.edu.
Application Guidelines
What if my School/Unit/etc. already had a page on Giving Day last year?:
Any School, non-degree granting programs or areas that had a fund highlighted last year will not need to submit a new application but will instead review last year’s page for updates. An email will be sent to former leads the week of October 7th. Reach out to givingday@ruf.rutgers.edu if you did not receive an email request as a past lead.
Schools:
Every Rutgers school had a campaign page for its general fund in 2019 and will not need to submit a new application. Some schools chose to highlight scholarship funds last year as well. If so, they will not need to submit a new application but will take part in a review process instead. If a school would like to raise money for its scholarship fund for the first time this year, an application must be submitted.
Non-degree-granting, Rutgers-affiliated programs and areas:
Any non-degree granting programs or areas that had a fund highlighted last year will not need to submit a new application but will instead review last year’s page for updates. Non-degree-granting Rutgers-affiliated programs and areas (departments within a school, etc.) may apply for campaign pages by completing and submitting this application. Due to limitations in the Giving Day vendor contract, we are unable to offer unlimited campaign pages, so applications will be reviewed by the Rutgers Giving Day committee and prioritized based on completeness of the application, account verification, and past Giving Day performance, if applicable. All must adhere to the ambassador requirements below.
Matching Gifts:
Consider whether you have a donor who would match gifts to your fund(s) on Giving Day, or who would issue a challenge (e.g., John Smith, MGSA ’70, will match the first $10,000 raised to the MGSA Scholarship Fund). Data from past years shows that programs featuring a match or challenge typically outperform those that do not. Deadline for confirmation of a match is March 1, 2020 by email to Amanda.Catherall@ruf.rutgers.edu.
Other Funds:
As in previous years, donors will be able to support any fund not listed on the Giving Day site through the “other” option.
Email:
Schools and Units that intend to send out mail through Marketo on the day of Giving Day are required to attend a Rutgers Giving Day open house, which will be held in February 2020 (more details to follow).
Ambassadors:
Name a minimum of 10 volunteers your team has recruited to do personal outreach within their own personal networks. Consider faculty, staff, alumni, students, parents, and friends tied to your organization to serve in this role. Ambassadors will be expected to send personal texts and emails, as well as post on social media. To make this role easier, ambassadors will be invited to a training webinar and will be provided with sample messaging. Ambassadors are highly encouraged to donate in order to better inspire others.
Rutgers Giving Day applications are closed at this time. Reach out to givingday@ruf.rutgers.edu if you'd like to participate next year.
