Class of 1971: 50th Milestone

The excitement is already beginning to build! The Class of 1971 will celebrate our most significant of alumni milestones—our 50th anniversary—in 2021.

When we were students at Rutgers, do you recall how the Chambers Brothers sang “Time Has Come Today”? Well, today is the day for us! We have officially kicked off our 50th-anniversary campaign and the planning of our induction into the Old Guard at Rutgers, a time-honored tradition for 50th-anniversary classes. We will share dates and details of our milestone celebrations in the coming months.

Our support for the university matters every year, but it is especially significant this year as we celebrate our 50th. That’s why we are happy to say that the Class of 1971 50th Milestone Campaign Committee will lead the charge to commemorate our anniversary with two special class gifts.

Please support our 50th-anniversary gifts to Rutgers:

  1. We have renamed our existing Class of 1971 Merit Scholarship as the Class of 1971 Memorial Scholarship in honor of departed loved ones, especially our deceased classmates. Please make a gift directly to the Class of 1971 Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of classmates, friends, family, or anyone special in your life. Be sure to let us know the name(s) of those you have memorialized, as a page will be included in our printed reunion program.
  2. Your gift specifically to the Class of 1971 Fund (which houses funds for our class gifts) will help us endow the Class of 1971 Scarlet Promise Grants Fund. We encourage you to visit the Scarlet Promise Grants page for more details on this important initiative, which is a top priority for the university.

If you have been a loyal supporter of Rutgers, we thank you and say, “The time has come today to stay the course!” If contributing to our alma mater is something you have done infrequently or not at all, “the time has come today” to help us achieve our highest level of participation to date.

Our 45th-anniversary gift of Paul Robeson Plaza was accomplished because our class came together like never before. Don’t you agree that it’s about time we all step up, together as Rutgers brothers and sisters, in greater numbers for our 50th-anniversary campaign? Your gift, no matter the amount, will help us make a difference.
