Connecting with the University
The Department of Annual Giving reaches out to alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends with updates on the university, empowering you to support the aspect of Rutgers that means the most to you. Perhaps you’ve spoken to one of our Annual Giving student callers, seen one of our emails highlighting the university’s history, or heard from a dean or the president in a letter. These communication channels are open because Rutgers values you and your involvement.
Who Supports Rutgers
Although Rutgers is a state university, state support and student tuition and fees cover less than two-thirds of a Rutgers education. That is why the generosity of alumni, friends, and the Rutgers community is essential for each and every student. The Department of Annual Giving understands this need and is dedicated to raising private support for scholarships, fellowships, academic programs, student services, faculty development, and all four chancellor-led units.
Did you know?
- You make the decision about where your gift will be allocated. You can direct it to a particular school, scholarship fund, athletic program, library, or any other area you choose.
- The Rutgers University Foundation was created in 1973 to consolidate the fundraising work of the university. It is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization, and all gifts that come through the foundation are fully tax-deductible to the extent allowed by the IRS.
The Goal of Giving
While Rutgers has undergone several transformations since 1766, one thing remains constant: a commitment to the best education possible for every student. Our university is now considered a major economic engine for New Jersey and the nation. Working together, we can ensure that future generations of students will have no shortage of opportunities, achievements, and successes.
For Parents and Guardians
You believe in the importance of a strong education and the key role it will play in a child’s future. Although the college years are an opportunity for young people to mature and find direction, students’ experiences are shaped by their parents or guardians. You can make a difference and ensure that each student has access to the resources they need to achieve success.
One way to help is through the Rutgers Parents Fund. This fund supports Career Exploration and Success (New Brunswick), Student Affairs (New Brunswick), and Rutgers University Libraries (all campuses). These resources are crucial to students during their time at Rutgers and after graduation.
In addition, the Rutgers Parents Association provides programs that engage parents and support students while providing scholarships for students in need.
While these are just a few of the many giving opportunities at Rutgers, we hope you will remain actively involved in your child’s education while forging a lifelong and meaningful bond with Rutgers. Please support the area of the university that means the most to you and your family.
