Class of 1962 — 60th Milestone
We met as boys—fresh from high school and part of an incoming class of 1,200 who gathered to begin Rutgers’ classes in New Brunswick on September 11, 1958. We left as young men who were handed Rutgers College diplomas on the floor of Rutgers Stadium on June 6, 1962.
In the nearly six decades that have passed, we’ve built careers in business, medicine, academia, literature, government, the military, and countless other fields. Many of us married, had children and grandchildren and, maybe not too long ago, even great grandchildren. There’s a story for each of us. And despite our place of birth, family upbringing or life’s achievements, we have a common legacy: the pathways, classrooms, and playing fields of Rutgers. The time is coming in the fall of 2022 to celebrate that in person with your Rutgers brothers and once again share time and those stories with the men who once meant so much to us.
Beginning with our first legacy reunion, our 10th, our class has positioned itself as The Public Service Class with The Class of 1962 Presidential Public Service Award, an ongoing initiative to reward our university with recognition for its students, faculty, and staff for their extracurricular efforts to serve their communities outside of Rutgers. At our 50th reunion we added the Class of 1962 Public Service Scholarship Fund to reward and assist undergraduates who demonstrate the same extracurricular effort in their communities. In the last nine years, 16 Rutgers students have accepted and benefited from our scholarships. You can read all about our programs here: http://www.rutgers62.org/publicservice21.htm.
All the funds supporting these programs have come from you through the generous and continuing financial assistance you have so impressively given. Now more than ever, your financial support is needed to sustain these programs into the future. There are many ways of joining in to ensure the Rutgers Class of 1962 will always be there rewarding the important public service efforts of the Rutgers community. You can give a single fixed amount, or regularly scheduled payments, all of which will be designated to our 60th reunion public service objectives.
We hope you will be there for the 60th and, more importantly, that you will contribute to support our public service initiatives. Our class has a legacy of which we should be proud–today and into tomorrow. But your support now is important.
And, too, we’d like to invite you to join with us to make our 60th Reunion the best ever. If you’d like to help with the planning as part of the reunion team, just send your name to events@rutgers62.org and we’ll contact you.
